Walking As Worship: The Most Underrated Way To Honor God With Your Body

Hey Bestie! Did you know that you can use walking as worship?

walking as worship

The body is the focal point of human existence.  God placed us in physical bodies, in a physical world for a reason.

Every day we get to choose to honor Him by caring for one of the first gifts He’s given us: the body. Walking is a way that we can do it!

This simple, yet underrated exercise can be the key to connect with God like never before. As I was contemplating which exercises to do at home, God gave me the bright idea to just walk.

Now I’m able to see walking as a means to worship Him.

Today we’re going to talk through how to use movement as worship, why walking is so powerful, benefits of walking and more!

This post will be all about using walking as worship.

What Is Worship

For a long time, worship has been thought of as a moment where we sing and lift our hands, but worship isn’t limited to song.

Worship is actually service to God. It’s telling God that He is worthy through our actions.

Acts of worship attribute honor, dignity, and respect to someone of significant value. When it comes to honoring God, we get to do this in our physical bodies.

Think about it: Everything that we do happens in our bodies. There’s nothing that happens apart from it within our lifetime.

Romans 12:1 says “Therefore I urge you brothers and sisters and view of God’s mercy to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice. Holy and pleasing to God for this is your proper worship”.

Can Exercise Be A Form Of Worship

Yes, here’s why: The life that we live is a life of stewardship. A steward is someone who has been chosen to manage, look after, or administrate on behalf of another person.

Our bodies are gifts that we’ve been given to steward! We didn’t give ourselves our bodies, we received them.

As we learn to steward our bodies, through energizing and recharging them, we are honoring God and in turn worshiping Him.

How Can Walking Be A Spiritual Practice

As human beings, we are so special. We are the only species that are composed of three unique components fused into one.

All of us are fragments of God in physical form. Since we are spirits, with souls, inside of bodies, everything we do affects the spiritual world.

Whatever activity you do that helps you to slow down, connect with Christ, and regulate your nervous system in a healthy way can be considered a spiritual practice.

Think about this: Have you ever noticed that when you walk, your mind relaxes, and you become more aware of what’s going on inwardly?

You may have also noticed the beauty of your external environment as well.

Walking helps to regulate you and it puts you on a path to receive and connect with God. In a heightened state, this is almost impossible to do.

Walking is also something you can practice regularly and intentionally. This simple exercise has the power to transform you both inside and out.

Why Is Walking So Powerful

Walking is free, let’s start there! It’s also something that you naturally do and with intention, it can transform your entire life.

Walking is the most low impact form of exercise that has the potential to support and boost your overall health in multiple ways.

For now, we will discuss three of those ways.

3 Benefits Of Walking As Worship

1. Walking Supports Physical Health

Walking is said to strengthen and improve your heart, build endurance, strengthen your bones, and maintain a healthy weight or help you to manage your weight.

I personally found a love for walking because it allows me to create energy.

2. Walking Helps To Regulate Emotions

I noticed when I’m angry or frustrated, a walk helps me to ease my feelings.

It also helps to alleviate stress, anxiety, and gives your mind space to be present in the moment.

3. Walking Helps You To Flow Spiritually

The body was designed by God to move. It’s almost paradoxical because walking requires you to move, but it also helps you to slow down.

If you walk outdoors (which I highly recommend), it gives you a chance to take in your surroundings and hear the sweet sounds of nature.

With every step, you get a chance to create space to disconnect from daily distractions and quiet your mind so that God may speak.

Many of my revelations from God came through short walks around my neighborhood.

It’s truly amazing what all can come from a simple walk.

What Happens To Your Body When You Walk Everyday

Walking everyday opens your world to new possibilities. Every time you put your foot to pavement (or a treadmill because that works too!), you participate in the breakdown and building factor of your body.

Your body is strong and whatever you frequently do with it becomes your frequency.

Remember what 1 Corinthians 6:19 says “Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you received from God. You are not your own. You were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

What happens to your body when you walk everyday is simple: You intentionally honor God with your body.

Bestie, you can use walking as worship! What if this becomes your new spiritual practice?
