What Does It Mean To Rebuild Your Life

I’m in the process of rebuilding my life so don’t worry, you’re not alone in this. Rebuilding your life means to make a conscious decision to change old habits and mindsets that keep you from being the best version of yourself.

It’s a process of healing, self-discovery, forgiveness, and letting go. Rebuilding your life will take work, but it will be rewarding to know you did it in the end.

How To Rebuild Your Life

There are a number of ways that you can rebuild your life. Always allow God to lead on the path that’s specific to you.

Remember there is not a right or wrong way of doing this, but there is a way that God has that’s perfect for you.

Here are a few ideas on how to rebuild your life:

1. Go On A Fast

Matthew 6:16-18 NIV-“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you”.

Fasting is willfully abstaining from food for a spiritual purpose. This definition was coined by the late and great Dr. Myles Munroe.

Fasting cleanses you and helps you to prioritize what matters. It’s an effective and safe method to detoxify your mind and body in order to reveal your godly nature.

It’s a practice to not only rebuild your life, but to show that God has always been near. Each time you complete a fast, you’ll feel better.

Every part of your being will thank you because fasting is very good for you and it’s also freeing.

2. Spend Time With God

James 4:8 NIV-Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Every relationship you enter needs to be nurtured. It doesn’t matter if it’s a relationship with your pet, it NEEDS to be nurtured.

If you don’t nurture your relationship with God, then how much do you expect to get out of it? He already did the hard work and all He is now asking is for you to walk with Him throughout life.

Walking with God doesn’t have a certain look, but you must get familiar with His voice by spending time in His word. God’s word is one of the primary ways He chooses to speak.

If you’re not familiar with Him or His voice, then how would you know when He give you instruction?

3. Journal

Psalm 111:2 NIV-Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them.

Journaling is one of those things that can really amplify your relationship with God and your relationship with yourself. It allows you to process your emotions, express your thoughts, manifest your dreams, and so much more.

In my opinion, everyone should make journaling a habit even if it’s just to document your experiences.

4. Walk In Obedience

Deuteronomy 5:33 NIV-Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.

Obedience is crucial to having a healthy relationship with God. There are so many benefits to walking in obedience to God as well.

5. Practice Meditation

Joshua 1:8 NIV-Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Meditation comes in many different forms. You don’t have to sit with your legs crossed and hum for it to count as meditation (although you can!).

You have to find what meditation form is best for you.

A few meditation forms include:

  • Dancing
  • Breathwork
  • Stretching
  • Walking
  • Reading a Book
  • Journaling
  • Mirror Work
  • Positive Self-Talk
  • Cleaning
  • Crocheting
  • and so much more!

6. Work On Your Character And Your Look

Ephesians 4:1 NLT-Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.

Contrary to popular belief, looks do matter, but so does your character.

What you look like says more about you than you may think and the same goes for your character.

7. Pray

Matthew 6:6 NIV- But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Prayer is the way God chooses to commune with us. It is said that prayer is like having a conversation with God just as you would with a friend.

You don’t have to nervous or scared when you talk to God; just be yourself.

He knows what you need before you ask and truthfully He just wants to partner with you in this life.

Pray to God and watch your life change for the better.

8. Forgive Yourself And Others

Colossians 3:13 NLT-Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.

Unforgiveness is one of the biggest deceivers you may encounter. When it’s for someone else, it can make you think you have power over the person that wronged you.

That you’re justified in your reasoning for not forgiving them. And that the unforgiveness is protecting you in some way.

If you hold unforgiveness towards yourself, it can cause you to have a negative perception of yourself, spiritual disconnect, low self-esteem, and feelings of guilt and shame.

Unforgiveness is a trap.

Always practice forgiving yourself and others. God will be right there to help you.

Now let’s talk about Rebuilding Yourself After A Break Up….

Break ups can be tough! One minute you’re in a consistent relationship with someone you thought you’d be with forever and the next you’re single.

Have you ever been there? I’m sure you have even if you’ve never been in an official relationship.

But breakups don’t only happen between two people.

Breakups can also happen between your past self and present self. Do you realize that you have to break up with the old you to become the new you?

When you want to build a new body, you have to part ways with your old body.

Rebuilding yourself will always require you to go through some sort of breakup.

It doesn’t always have to be with a person. The biggest breakup you’ll experience is the one between your current mindset and the one you’re looking to build.

No matter what, breaking up with anything is a huge transition that can be taxing on your emotions so learning how to handle them in a healthy way is must!

Here are seven ways to rebuild yourself after a breakup:

7 Ways To Rebuild Yourself After A Breakup

1. Process What Happened

Luke 9:25 AMP-For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world [wealth, fame, success], and loses or forfeits himself?

Your mental health is extremely important to your being. The world may teach you to keep going and not acknowledge something that hurt you, but if you run from it now; it’s bound to catch up with you later.

Processing what happened isn’t something that happens in a day.

You may be processing your break up for months or even years depending on the length of the relationship and the depth of your emotions.

This is a personal journey of self-reflection and healing that isn’t meant to be rushed. Take your time to process what you’ve experienced.

You’re worth it.

2. Feel The Feelings

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 ESV-Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

This is the part of the rebuilding yourself journey that many people don’t like. When you are processing what happened, you will experience unwanted feelings.

It will be a challenge for you because you may have to relive some of the memories from the past. It’s okay because you’re not alone in this.

Allow yourself to feel your feelings and process them in a healthy way.

3. Remind Yourself Of Who You Are In Christ

1 Peter 2:9 NIV- But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Sometimes if you’re not careful, your identity can be attached to whatever you’re breaking up with. Change will always happen, but who you are in Christ is evergreen.

Begin to stir yourself up in the truth of who he called you to be. The Creator is the one who defines the creation.

As his offspring, you’re true identity is in him. Sometimes you just have to be reminded of it.

4. Develop A New Love For Yourself

Colossians 3:3 NIV-For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

You’ve changed for the better. Get to know yourself right where you are.

Don’t allow this break up to take a toll on your self esteem. This break up is a blessing in disguise.

It’s a wake up call for you to rediscover yourself.

5. Fix Your Focus

Colossians 3:2 NLT-Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Everything you go through will have some positives and negatives. That’s just the duality of life.

Whenever you’re experiencing something as big as a break up, you have to remind yourself to fix your focus.

Fixing your focus is all about pulling the positives out of the situation.

What is something positive about this breakup? Is there anything good that you can see in this experience?

6. Spend Time With God

Psalm 46:1 NIV-God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

God is your Source. When you’re going through anything in life, He is right there walking with you.

Include Him when you face things in life. He wants to help you and guide you into all truth (John 16:13 NIV). Pick up your Bible again.

Read just one scripture a day if you have to.

Spend some time just talking to God because He is your Bestie Forever and everything you need is in him!

7. Talk With Someone You Trust

Exodus 18:25 NIV-He chose capable men from all Israel and made them leaders of the people, officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.

God is always number one, but He also places beautiful people in our lives that we can count on.

Who is the person or people that you can turn to when you’re in need?

Maybe you’re in a waiting season where God has you alone with Him.

That’s okay too because you get to pray for the beautiful being that He wants to align you with.

Or maybe the person you need to trust is a therapist.

Therapy is a great place to develop a new perspective while getting help and clarity about rebuilding yourself.
