Let’s talk about how to trust God’s promises in your life.
God’s promises are the evidence that He wants to take care of you. The closer you get to God, the more you begin to understand that He really does keep His promises to you.
Although the world is chaotic and unpredictable, you can rest assure that God’s promises will never fail.
This post is all about how to trust God’s promises in your life.
Are you ready? Let’s geaux!
What Is A Promise
Promise-A commitment to someone that is usually spoken or written.
Learning to trust God’s promises goes deeper than just believing His word. It’s actively engaging and pursuing it in order to be transformed into the person God always knew you’d be.
A promise from God is much different than a promise from a human. Promises are never meant to be broken because they’re similar to a contract.
Unfortunately, humans are prone to break promises because we are so fickle.
But God isn’t interested in breaking any promises to His children. All of God’s promises are trustworthy meaning that you can expect Him to fulfill them even if they go beyond your lifetime or take longer than you expected.
In order to qualify for God’s promises, you must obey His word. God isn’t expecting anything else because obedience shows that you love Him.
Remember that obedience is God’s love language and it’s the only way you can express your love to Him.
Are You Aware That God’s Promises Are For You
2 Corinthians 1:20 ESV-For all the promises of God find their “Yes” in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our “Amen” to God for his glory.
I know it can be easy to read God’s promises and think “those aren’t for me”. What you must know is that every promise in the Word of God was designed for you.
When God wrote out His promises, He had you in mind because you were always meant to live under Heaven’s jurisdiction while on Earth.
This is why He says “You are in this world, but not of it”. You’re supposed to be living in Heaven right now, not waiting until you die to go to the “Promised Land”.
You can have the promise land in this life time as you learn and believe that God’s promises are for you.
Just because you have baggage doesn’t mean that you’re excluded from the promises. His promises don’t discriminate by who you are or what you may have done. They’re yours!
Believe that God’s promises are for you and watch your life begin to change in the best way possible.
What Are Some Of God’s Promises
God’s promises will never return to Him void, but again you have to do your part. None of God’s promises can be bought or earned based on human works, but your obedience to God does qualify you for certain promises.
It’s much like a parent-child relationship. If your child asks “Can I have some cookies?” and you reply “Yes, but you have to clean your room first”. The clean room qualifies the child to have the cookies.
It’s the same with God and His promises. They are all given freely, but to redeem them you have to utilize obedience.

How Do I Know That God’s Promises Will Come True In My Life
Hebrews 11:6 NLT-And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.
Each promise tells of how intimately God wants to be in your life. He has formed you, chosen you, set you apart, made specific plans for your life, and vowed to never leave you or forsake you.
This is because He is the One who started this good work in you and He will be the one to complete it. He has cared for you since you were born and will be with you throughout your lifetime.
It’s very comfortable to believe in things that you can see rather than believe words in an ancient book. It isn’t until you get to know the One who inspired each word that you can know that the promises have already been fulfilled.
The only way to know that God’s promises will come true in your life is to take the risk of faith. What do you have to lose when you are placing your “bets” on the One who is everything?
It’s time to get out of your comfort zone and release control. Trying to be in control and relinquishing control at the same time does not work. These things cannot coexist.
The only way to know for sure that God’s promises will come true in your life is to have faith in Him.
How To Trust God’s Promises In Your Life: 8 Ways
Here are eight ways to trust God’s promises in your life:
1. Develop A Relationship With God
Genesis 1:26 NLT-Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”
The promises of God shouldn’t be apart from relationship with Him. Everything that was created is meant to stay connected to its source and God is your Source.
In order to trust God’s promises, you have to know His Character. You get to know His character through relationship with Him.
Check out this video about relationship with God here.
2. Study His Promises
Psalm 145:5 ESV-On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.
Jesus said that you will know the truth and the truth will set you free. The power of freedom is in the knowing.
You have to know the promises of God to claim them. Take some time to study His promises. I suggest that you start in the book of Psalms.
This book is filled with many promises.
3. Recite His Promises
Psalm 145:6 ESV-They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness.
When you recite anything, it sticks in your mind. Repetition is how you learn. Think about all the things you know now. All of those things were able to stick because of repetition.
4. Take Action With Faith
Hebrews 11:1 KJV- Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen.
To trust God’s promises, you’ll have to use your faith. Faith is fueled by your hope in God’s promises and it flows through your actions.
5. Practice Gratitude
Psalm 100 ESV-Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!
Practicing gratitude is a way to shift your attitude. When you to point out the things you’re hopeful for rather than the things you want to change, your outlook on life begins to shift.
What if you can’t see what God is doing because you’re so focused on what He’s not doing?
6. Bear The Fruit Of Patience
Galatians 5:22-23 ESV-But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Patience is a fruit of the Spirit. If you’re going to put your trust in God, then you have to practice being patient.
God doesn’t work in our timing and sometimes that’s very frustrating. Fortunately, bearing fruit isn’t a solo act.

7. Listen To The Word
Romans 10:17 NKJV-So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
You will never trust God if you don’t hear from Him. Trust me, He wants to speak to you and He wants you to hear when He speaks.
Take some time to listen to the word through a podcast or a sermon. It will fuel both your trust and your faith.
8. Keep A Journal Of Testimonies
Revelation 12:11 NKJV-And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
It’s always wonderful to keep a journal to see how much you’ve grown over the years. A testimony journal can help you to remember what God has already done and the many prayers He has answered in your life.
When things get tough, you can look back at your journal and remind yourself that your trust in God’s promises are not in vain.
How Do I Respond To God’s Promises
Finally, I want us to understand how to respond to God’s promises (Remember that this is a relationship).
Let’s look at 2 Peter 1:5-7. It says that we have to couple our faith with six things:
- Moral excellence: Doing what’s right and avoiding what’s wrong.
- Knowledge: Your understanding of something.
- Self-Control: The ability to restrain or control yourself from going over a capacity or level in which you should stop.
- Patient endurance: Staying planted where God has you.
- Godliness: Being like God; developing His character.
- Brotherly affection: Love for your brothers and sisters everywhere.
Each thing you couple your faith with will bring forth your true God-given character. As you spend time with Jesus, His ways rub off on you.
You then begin to understand Him and yourself more. This develops your trust in Him and it will continually grow.
Trusting in God’s promises doesn’t have to be hard. It will not be enjoyable at first, but what discipline is? The more you consciously put forth the effort and ask Him to help you, the more you’ll desire to do it.
