Do you need some tips to trust God in the waiting season?
Waiting seasons can be challenging, but having the right perspective makes all the difference. Today I’m going to share some tips with you based on my successes and failures from my waiting season.
This post is all about the waiting season.
Are you ready? Let’s geaux!
What Is The Waiting Season
The waiting season is the time in your life where you get the opportunity to get to know God and yourself in a new way. During this time, God leads you, tests you to know what’s in your heart, humbles you, and observes you to see if you’ll keep His commandments or not.
The waiting season is not all about going from place to place in the physical; it’s more about the making of your character and the maturing of your mind.
The Pain Of Waiting On God
Before we go any further in this post, I want to acknowledge the pain of waiting on God. On the outside looking in, you may appear fine, but you are waiting on something that you’ve always desired and you’re wondering what’s taking so long.
It’s one thing to go through something for a short period of time, but when years have passed it’s a different story. But what if waiting isn’t the thing you should be focused on?
God led you into this time so that you can fix your focus on Him. Let Him rewire your thinking and transform your life so that you can be prepared for the blessing that you’ve been waiting for.
Reflection Question: Am I putting my desires before God?
5 Signs You Are In A Season Of Waiting
There will always be signs when you’re in the waiting season. Sometimes the signs may be obvious and other times they’re not.
Here are some common signs that you’re in a season of waiting:
1. God Feels Far Away
James 4:8a NKJV-Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
The truth is God is never far away from any of His children. When He feels far, it’s an indication that you need to draw near to Him even more than you already do.
Reflection Question: When did you notice that God felt far away?
2. The Past Keeps Resurfacing
Philippians 3:13 ESV-Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead.
You will never be able to outrun your past. To forget what lies behind and strain forward to what lies ahead means that you’ve faced what happened head on.
Until you allow God to help you face whatever it is that you’re running from, your past will continue to resurface. Allow this time with God to bring you into a still state where you can acknowledge what happened, be delivered from it, and then set free.
Reflection Question: Why do you think your past keeps resurfacing?
3. You’re Feeling Stuck
Psalm 121:2 NIV- My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
Feeling stuck isn’t the worst feeling ever, but it can sure feel like it. This state isn’t permanent, it just may mean that God is trying to get your attention.

Reflection Question: When did you start feeling stuck?
4. Nothing You Try Is Working Out
Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV-Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
It’s not always easy to keep trying so be proud of yourself for staying the course. However, it’s not always your efforts that gets you to the place of success.
What if God has been trying to get your attention through multiple failed attempts? Something tells me that you already knew it was God, but you’ve been afraid to surrender it all to Him.
Why is that?
Reflection Question: What is stopping you from surrendering it all to God and doing things His way?
5. You’re Emotions Are Constantly Under Attack
1 John 3:20 NLT-Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything.
Your emotions are in the seat of your soul. If you didn’t know your soul is your mind, will, and emotions. You are a triune just like you’re Father. You’re a spirit, with a soul, inside of a body.
If you’ve been getting discouraged easily, feeling like you should give up, or struggling with consistency, then this waiting season may be exactly what you need.
Reflection Question: When would you say your emotions get attacked the most?
What To Do In The Waiting Season
1. Seek The Kingdom
Matthew 6:33 NLT-But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
The whole point of the waiting season is to get to know God and yourself in a new way. Do you realize that God had an original way that you should live?
This is why He says that you’re in this world and not of it (John 17:16 NIV). Seek the kingdom first and His righteousness to discover the truth of who He is and who you are in Him.
It starts with you being intentional about praying and reading your Bible. Don’t make it complicated or allow another person to convince you that you need to do an excess amount of things.
The simpler, the better. God will lead you as you follow Him.
Tip To Seek The Kingdom: Set a time where you have quiet time with God and stick to that meeting time.
2. Become Intentional About Learning About Yourself
What do you really know about yourself? Remember you are a triune just like your Father so you’re a spirit, with a soul, inside of a body.
There’s so much to learn about yourself so it’s time to be intentional about learning about you. It starts with spending time with yourself and really doing the things you enjoy.
Tip To Become Intentional About Learning About You: Start spending some time alone. It can be five minutes if that’s all you have, but you need to start.
3. Hone Your Gift
What are your gifts? Is there anything you noticed that you can do substantially well?
Your gift doesn’t have to be singing, dancing, or drawing. Do you organize well? Can you cook or clean well? Do you have an eye for detail that can be used in the fashion world?
Whatever your gift is press into it. God has blessed you to serve your gifts to the world. You will NOT deposit any of them into the grave.
Tip To Hone Your Gift: If you don’t know your gifts, try different things you like. If you do know your gifts, pick one and practice, practice, practice! Also, try to do it for fun. Everything doesn’t have to have monetary value at first.
4 Tips To Trust God In The Waiting Season
1.Change Your Perspective
2 Corinthians 4:18 NLT-So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
A gigantic part of getting through any situation in life is the way you look at things. When you look at your season of waiting as negative, it will turn out that way.
The key is to change your mindset. For example instead of thinking “This is taking too long” or “what good will come out of this?”
When you start to change your outlook from negative to positive. You can start to enjoy the waiting season and get closer to God in the process.
Tip To Change Your Perspective: Instead of thinking “This is taking too long” Try to think: “Even though this may be taking too long, I know God’s timing is perfect and this is benefiting me.
2. Trust God’s Pace And Follow
Ecclesiastes 3:1 NLT-There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under Heaven.
God is a good Father and any good parent will not give their child something they aren’t ready for. Think about it this way: Would you give a two-year-old a knife to cut an apple? No, because the child will hurt themselves with it.
This is the season where your soul will be repaired. During this time, your character is being developed and you’re learning learn how to walk in obedience to God.
Slow down and allow yourself to go at His pace. There is no rush in life. Trust God.
Tip to Trust God’s Pace: Say aloud “Lord I trust you” each time you feel yourself rushing and ask Him to help you to go at His pace.

Become Present In Your “Here”
Matthew 6:34 NIV-Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own
Let me say it again in a different way because repetition breeds revelation. Wherever you are, God is there with you. Why are you so worried about tomorrow when you have not gotten through today?
Slow down and appreciate where you are. When you worry, you miss God and the goodness he tries to show you.
Take things one step at a time. You cannot focus on a million things and think that you will get even one thing done.
Tip To Be Present In Your Here: Ask yourself aloud where are you and answer yourself aloud.
3. Know That There Is Purpose In The Waiting
John 16:12 NLT-There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now.
Have you ever thought that maybe God is positioning others so that they can be in the right place at the right time so that both you and they can reap the benefits?
Oftentimes, we do not think about all of the factors that may go into us receiving a blessing. Think about how many hands a dollar touches before it reaches your hand.
The factors behind the scenes of life that you have no idea about are one reason you should trust God. He knows about every detail.
Tip To Know There Is Purpose: Go outside and look at a leaf. Notice the many details in it and talk to God about what you’ve observed.
4. Practice Self-Love
Mark 12:31 NLT-The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.
The truth is you may not love yourself as much as you think you do. How often do you get upset at yourself for not being who you thought you should be?
Have you been able to face yourself and the things that have happened in your past? It’s so easy to neglect yourself in a world of needy people.
Before God will ever allow you to reach his people, He will attempt to show you you. You were taught to love your neighbor as yourself, but how can you do that if you don’t truly love yourself?
Tip To Practice Self-Love: Slow down and meet your own needs before trying to meet others needs. Take some time to focus on you and you ONLY.
