Let’s discuss choosing your words wisely.

Words are powerful because they carry meaning. Even deeper than that they are like couriers delivering packages to the recipient; each package containing either life or death.
We each have a responsibility to choose our words wisely because our words have the power to influence and shape realities. When God brought forth anything he spoke and he has bestowed that same power onto us.
Today we will talk about the purpose of words learning when to speak and when not to speak the importance of guarding your heart and more.
This post will be all about choosing your words wisely.
Are you ready? Let’s geaux!
How Does God Want Us To Communicate
God has given us the beautiful ability to communicate using our words. If we’re honest there are times when we say things without thinking of the consequences.
When it comes to God, He’s clear on how He like us to communicate and it takes faith. Remember with faith it’s possible to please God (Hebrews 11:6 NIV).
Being in survival mode makes you easily irritated. Sometimes you don’t even realize that you’re using your words as weapons because in your mind, you’re only defending yourself. For a long time, I was constantly frustrated and angry with others.
Let’s take a look at scripture to see what God has to say about how we communicate:
Colossians 4:6 NIV
Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
Ephesians 4:25-27 NIV
Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 NIV
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
Ephesians 4:29 NIV
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
2 Timothy 1:7 NIV
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.
Proverbs 18:2 NIV
Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions.
James 4:11 NIV
Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it.
1 John 3:18 NIV
Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

What Is The Purpose Of Words
To find the purpose of anything you have to go back to its origin. Its never wise to ask the created thing what is purpose is but it is wise to seek after the Creator.
To understand the purpose of words we must ask ourselves what is a word. A word is an idea expressed.
Words are a collection of thoughts put together. It’s the way we communicate express feelings give instructions and influence actions.
When it comes to God, He wants us to pattern our words after His purpose. Since Jesus is our example we have to study how He spoke.
What was His language like towards the Father, Himself and others?
How To Stop Using Your Words As Weapons
I’m guilty of using my words as weapons. The thing is I used to love it! where I grew up, ribbing o roasting was the thing to do and you need to be able to defend yourself.
It wasn’t until God stopped in and show me that that wasn’t His will. If you’re using your words as weapons just know that they have a greater purpose.
Let’s walk through a couple of steps to help you to stop using your words as weapons:
1. Connect Or Reconnect To God
Matthew 11:28-30 NIV-“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light”.
If you aren’t really connected to Christ you won’t be aware of your verbiage.
Relationship with God is a must because He will be able to show you personally how you may be using your words as weapons.
2. Start To See Yourself As God Sees You
Ephesians 2:10 NIV-For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
You are an extension of God in the flesh. You’re everything that He has declared very good (Genesis 1:31 NIV).
There are many beautiful descriptions about your identity in the word of God and the key to seeing it is the first see Him.
3. Realize That Other People Are Also God’s Image
Genesis 1:26 NIV-Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
God wants told me “ the people you’re using your words against are made in my image too”. This is why it’s so important to stay connected to God and see yourself the way that He sees you.
You can only love honor, see, extend, and etc. out of what you’ve already received and given to yourself. Yes, you are God’s image and so are they.
The golden rule is to treat others how you want to be treated not as they treat you.
4. Ask God To Open Your Eyes To See What He Sees
Matthew 11:29 NIV-Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light”.
Honestly we all have real hurts and pains when it comes to people especially those closest to us. God isn’t taking us out of situations with people because we are uncomfortable.
He is trying to teach us to be like Him through these uncomfortable moments. This requires us to experience difficult moments and see people from His lens.
Ask Him to open your eyes to see people like your parents the way that He sees them. Remember God created them so He knows how to deal with His creation.
It is not your responsibility to teach them how to treat you verbally. Take the lessons that God is teaching you and exhibit them and that’s your honor to Him.
Other people will catch on Eventually and even if they don’t you’re only responsibility is how you manage your conduct and actions.

Learning When To Speak And When Not To Speak
Everything doesn’t require a response. This is coming from someone who’s clap back game was lethal.
Some things call for us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. What if God wants to point out a need for us to pray for, but the person doesn’t have the capacity to express it correctly?
Everybody is seeing live from their own lens and experiences. We have to remember that we are also difficult people at times.
In every experience there will be moments where you will need to be quiet or choose your words wisely.
Thankfully God is with us every step of the way.
The Importance Of Guarding Your Heart
Luke 6:45 NIV-A good man brings good things out of the good stored in heart, and an evil man brinfs evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
What’s in your heart? Whatever is in your heart will eventually come out of your mouth.
The Bible says to guard our hearts for out of it flows the issues of life. When the Bible speaks of the heart is actually referring to the mind.
It’s extremely important to God the gateways to your mind. This is your eyes, ears, and your mouth. In other words, it’s what you see what you hear and what you say and or eat.
Today I want you to take inventory of what you’ve been eating for the past week (Physically, mentally, and emotionally).
Here are some questions that you can ask yourself:
- What have I been watching?
- Who have I been listening to?
- What have I’ve been listening to?
- What conversations have I been participating in?
- What have I been reading?
- What words have I been speaking over myself?
All of this matters because this is the way you take inventory on what may be going into your heart.
Words are powerful because they carry meaning. With every word carry there is a recipient so we have a responsibility to choose our words wisely.
