Let’s talk through how to speak life into your situation.

God has given us many special abilities. One of those abilities is that we can create or destroy using the power of our tongues.
The reason why we can do this is because our Creator made us to be just like Him. When God wanted to see something come into fruition, He spoke (Genesis 1-2).
Since we have this God-given ability, it is our duty to learn and choose to speak life. In every situation you face, there’s an opportunity for you to speak life.
Today we will learn why speaking life is so powerful, what God says about speaking life, words to speak life daily, and more.
This post is all about how to speak life into your situation.
What Does It Mean To Speak Life
God created us to be expressive beings. We all have unique gifts to glorify God and uplift each other in Him.
Think about this for a second: Ever since the garden of Eden, we’ve been presented with the option of choosing life or death.
Do you realize that there were two trees in the middle of the garden? We often focus on the one Adam ate from, but there was another.
The tree of life was there because God wanted us to continuously feed on life.
We’ve always had the option to choose life and we still do today even in the worst of situations.
To speak life means to use discretion in your word choices.
It requires us to have an awareness of how our words represent God, how they are a reflection of what’s in our hearts, and how they have the power to influence others.
Speaking life is all about:
- Building yourself and others up (Ephesians 4:29 NIV)
- Living in the light (John 8:12 NIV)
- Practicing gratitude (Ephesians 5:4 NIV)
- Walking in faith (Romans 10:17 NIV)
- And leading in love (Ephesians 4:15 NIV)

Why Is Speaking Life So Powerful
If you are ever curious about who you are, you must look at God. You are who you are because God took you out of Himself (Genesis 1:26 NIV).
One of the words we use to describe God is omnipotent which means that God is full of power and potential.
Would you believe me if I told you that God has given that same ability to you and me? Technically, we are omnipotent too!
Now that doesn’t mean that we are equal to God, but because we came out of God, we are full of potential just as He is.
We have the ability to speak life because that’s the reserved power God designed us with.
Speaking life is so powerful because God designed the Earth and all of it’s inhabitant by speaking.
If you take a look at God’s creation process in Genesis one, you’ll notice that it consistently says “And God said” followed by “And then there was”.
Since we have that same potential, we can speak, couple it with our actions, and see things come into fruition.

What Does God Say About Speaking Life
The Bible is full of God’s words. There are scriptures where God is speaking directly as well as indirectly through people.
You will find that this book is full of metaphors, parables, and allegories that help you in your own life.
Throughout the entire Bible, we get to see how God used everyday people to bring forth His word and display His character.
All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness. This is so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV).
When it comes to speaking life, there’s many scriptures that you can use.
Let’s take a look at a few scriptures on speaking life:
Proverbs 18:20-21 NIV-From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled; with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied. The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Proverbs 10:11 NIV-The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
Colossians 4:6 NIV-Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
Proverbs 12:18 NIV-The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
Ephesians 4:29 NIV-Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is h
Proverbs 15:4 NIV-The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.
Proverbs 27:19 NIV-As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart.
Proverbs 16:24 NIV-Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
2 Corinthians 4:13 NIV-It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” Since we have that same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak.

How To Speak Life Into Your Situation
Depending on the situation, speaking life can be a challenge, but it’s not impossible.
We experience life and we have moments of weakness, but none of that should be enough to stop our faith.
Faith is the substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things unseen (Hebrews 11:1 KJV). The question then comes down to what do you want to see?
Even better, what do you believe that God would like to see?
Hint: He always wants to bring life into every situation.
Let’s talk through some steps to speak life into your situation:
1. Get Clear On Your Situation
Think about where you are right now. What do you see?
What are you currently experiencing that you would like to change?
What are the thoughts that you currently have about your situation? What thoughts do you have about yourself?

2. Develop A Vision
In the simplest terms, vision is what you would like to see. It’s an opportunity to use your imagination in hopes to bring it into your reality.
Think about what you’d like to see again. Another question is how would these changes benefit you and others?
What type of person are you in this vision?
3. Speak Life Over Your Vision
Something I have a mind to do is write out a script to speak over my life daily. If I’m honest, I don’t always know what to say.
In the script, I’m going to include scriptures as well as beautiful descriptive words from my vision.
Here’s an example of a script that you could write for yourself:

4. Speak Against Negative Thoughts
Negative thoughts are rooted in fear and words spoken to us. To combat negative thinking, you must take things one step at a time.

Examples Of Speaking Life To Others
Your words can either be worship to God or a weapon of destruction towards yourself and others.
If I’m completely honest, I used to take pride in using my words as weapons. I knew that if I was to hit someone, they’d heal rather quickly.
But if I spoke certain words to them, then that would leave a lasting impact.
That was not of God and I’m now aware of how crucial it is to speak life. I’m more mindful of the words I speak to others especially those closest to me.
Here are some examples of speaking life to others:
1. When Someone Cuts You Off In Traffic
Don’t take this personal because it’s not. When someone cuts you off, you can say:
“Oh wow God they must be in a hurry. Please allow them to get to their destination safely”.
Then when you see them at the red light give them a bright smile.
2. When Your Child Breaks Something Valuable
I don’t have children yet, but I have been a child who has broken a few things and the reaction was memorable..let’s just put it that way.
When your child breaks something valuable, respond to them as God would respond to you.
You can say something like:
“Hey baby, I know this was an accident. Let’s work on being careful next time”.
3. When Someone Is Getting On Your Nerves
Someone getting on your nerves is inevitable. You may get on your own nerves sometimes.
When someone is getting on your nerves, you can say something like:
“Hi, I would like to have a moment alone for some time”.
Make it personal and use “I” statements to set your boundary.
God has given us all the unique ability to create with our words. In every situation, we will have the opportunity to choose life or death. When it comes to your speaking, I encourage you to always do your best to choose life.

A quick recap of why it’s so powerful to speak life:
- God took us out of Himself
- God designed and filled the Earth through the power of His word
- The same omnipotent power is inside of us
- We have the potential to use the power of our words to create
Speaking life is powerful so we need to be mindful of our words. I know there are times that I get upset and forget that speaking life is a part of who I am.
The reminder that I’m choosing to focus on this week is “God took me out of Himself”.
It automatically reminds me that the next person was also taken out of Him even if they aren’t aware.
