Hey Besties! Do you know what your calling is?
To understand anything about a calling you have to understand your reason for existence. Why were you created?
Now, everyone has a specific purpose here on earth, but everyone’s purposes are a collection of the general purpose of mankind.
This post will be about what is a calling from God.
Have you ever thought about why mankind was created? What is man anyway?
In the book of Genesis, we get to witness God’s creation process. He speaks light (knowledge) to darkness (dysfunction) and calls forth living things from the ground, firmament, and the waters.
When God created you, he called you from out of himself. You were created and made according to Genesis 1:26.
Let us make man in our image after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, birds of the heavens, over the livestock, and over all the earth, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.
You may be a woman reading this and think that the word “man” is only referring to males, but that isn’t the case with God.
The word man or mankind refers to your species. Man refers to your spirit and your body is either male or female. Do you understand Bestie?
Your true self is your spirit. God created man then assigned you to have either a male or female vessel.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him. Male and female he created them (Genesis 1:27 ESV).
The Hebrew word for man is Adam so this tells us that the first of mankind’s name, was also a description of what he was. It’s pretty common in Hebrew culture to identify (or name) a thing by what it is.
The description Adam means man but it also means red, ruddy to describe what his body was derived from. Your spirit came directly out of God, but your body is from the dust of the ground.
This is why you can see hues of red within your skin no matter how light or dark you are. You are Adam.
Have you ever taken the time to think about why people’s bodies are buried once they die? It’s because wherever anything comes from, it has to return to that place.
The body was made from the ground so it has to return to it. Your spirit however will return to God.
What Is A Calling From God?
I’m sure you’ve probably heard that you’re a child of God (Romans 8:16 NIV). This couldn’t be more true, but fortunately your relationship with God is much more complex than that.
You see, you were created in God’s image for a reason. The Hebrew word for image is salem which has nothing to do with how you look physically.
Selem means “resemblance in character or representative figure”. You have the character of God so it’s safe to say that whatever is in God, is in you.
To better understand your true nature you will have to do some research on God’s character, but for now I’ll give you just a little something.
How Do I Know God’s Will For My Life
God’s will has been the same since before the beginning of time. A part of his will is for you to rule (have dominion) just like him in the earthly realm. God’s domain is Heaven while yours is the earth (Psalm 115:16 ESV).
This is why you always have had the dream in your heart to own and/or be your own boss. It’s because of your dominion nature.
Your calling is to rule, subdue, govern, and dominate the earth and the things that walk and crawl upon it.
Genesis 1:26 lays out the things man ought to dominate and they are as follows:
- Fish of the sea
- Birds of the air
- Livestock
- All of the earth
- Every creeping thing that creeps on the earth
No where on this list does God give man dominion over another man. Your calling is not to dominate people, but it is to dominate the earth and everything upon it, except the image of God.
The reason why you’re called to have dominion is because God created earth as an extension of Heaven. You can think of Heaven as your home country and earth as the colony you were assigned to impact.
Many people think that Jesus came to the earth to only save them from their sins. Read this carefully: That is an incomplete gospel.
Jesus did not come to earth to bring your Christianity. In fact, you are not a Christian because God has NEVER called you that.
Jesus came to the earth to restore everything Adam lost when man fell (Genesis 3 ESV). He came to bring back a government (Isaiah 9:6).
Does Every Have A Calling From God
The short answer is yes!
Every person on earth was created with the intent to impact the world in a significant way. Each of us were created as an expression of God for a specific purpose that only he can disclose.
And guess where he put it? Inside of us!
Collectively as man, we all have one purpose which is to make earth look just like heaven, by partnering with God and living out our Kingdom mandate which is dominion.
Typically, a calling is not called a calling. It’s called a purpose although the two words can be used interchangeably sometimes.
You’ll usually hear someone say that they “felt the call” to do something specific or even to be at a certain place.
In the grand scheme of it all, a calling makes way for purpose.
What is The Highest Calling In The Bible
If you were to guess the highest calling in the Bible, what would you guess? Most would probably say that the highest calling is the call of Jesus and they would be correct in a sense.
Jesus Christ’s sole purpose for coming to earth was:
- To reintroduce the Kingdom of God on earth to man
- To destroy the works of the devil
- To restore righteousness and the holiness of mankind
- To retrain mankind for Kingdom authenticity
- To restore the Kingdom rulership of God on earth through man
- To return administration of God’s Kingdom on earth to God’s earthly kings
(Rediscovering the Kingdom-Myles Munroe)
To sum it up, the highest calling is to get in alignment with your authentic self and walk hand in hand with your Bestie Forever Jesus Christ.
Christ is your example of the highest calling because he came as a man to show you how you should dominate the earth.
You are no different than Jesus. The only reason Jesus had authority on earth was because he was in a human body. This is the precedent God set from the beginning. He said “Let them (you and me) have dominion.
Why Didn’t God Stop The Fall Of Man
Have you ever wondered why the All powerful, all knowing God didn’t stop Adam from eating the fruit of knowledge of good and evil? Ever prayed and wondered why God wouldn’t just stop you from doing the things he didn’t want you to do? Do you ever wonder why God doesn’t stop all the bad things in the world that go on daily?
It’s pretty simple. It’s because God is integrous and will always be faithful to his word(Hebrews 6:13-18 NLT). He gave man dominion over the earth so it’s up to man to partner with God to get Heaven’s culture onto the earth.
God could’ve stopped Adam and Eve from sinning. He can stop every bad thing you’ve done and said, but he will never violate his word.
When Adam and Eve sinned, mankind needed to be covered. It started with God covering them with animal skins for clothes and then having people sacrifice animals to temporarily cover the sin.
In order for mankind to be covered forever, there had to be a sacrifice of another man and no one could carry that burden but the Christ. And this is why he had to come in a human’s body.
Bestie, its so much deeper than just going to Heaven. They taught you to hold on because it’ll all be okay once you go to the Promise Land, but you need your bills paid now. You have some hurts that need to be healed now.
Bestie, you need the Kingdom now, not later! And God said that it’s his good pleasure to give it to you now (Luke 12:32 KJV).
You will go to Heaven if you believe that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior and that God raised him from the dead, but since you are human your permanent residence will NEVER be Heaven.
God Loves You Too Much To Keep You In Heaven Once You Die To This Earth. I know This Is Contrary To What You’ve Been Taught, But Remember God Created You In His Image (In His Character) To Have Dominion.
Everything That’s In God Is In You:
- Since he is God; you are a god.
- Since he is Lord; you are a lord.
- Since he is King; you are a king.
A king needs a domain. He needs something to rule and God’s precedent was for you as man, to rule the earth while he rules Heaven. When you go to Heaven, you will no longer be a king.
You will be a prince because your Father is the only King of Heaven.
Here Are Some Scriptures About God’s Programming, The Fall Of Man, Who He Is, How He Restored You, And Who He Has Created You To Be:
Genesis 1:27-28
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heaven and over every living thing that moves on the earth.
Genesis 2:16
And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that eat of it you shall surely die.

Revelation 5:10
And you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.
Revelation 17:14
They will make war on the Lamb and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called chosen and faithful.
8 Ways To Avoid Quitting On Your Calling
Sometimes quitting seems like the better option, but then your potential comes to say a few words.
Your calling is so much bigger than your right now. Remember you were created after the image and likeness of God. Even Jesus was once a baby, but that baby was the Christ the entire time. I dare you to believe what God says about you citizen of Heaven.
Here are eight ways to avoid quitting on your calling that I personally tried:
1. Get Back To The Basics
Let’s think about school for a second. We go from pre-k to twelfth grade. Some of us even go from college to grad school.
Every grade level starts with fundamental teachings. You start off learning your ABCs and 123s then you learn to read, write, add, subtract, and so on.
If you break down even the most complex subjects, they all start off with the fundamentals.
When I was “going through”, I had to get back to the basics. Instead of trying to do do do; I had to just be. I had to get back to the place where I could be with God in the simplest way.
My prayers became more simple. Instead of trying to read a whole book of the bible, I just tried to be consistent at reading it.
I even went back to just writing every day, not worrying about how it would sound, but just being me. Your calling from God stems from the basics of just being with Him.
2. Don’t Allow Comparison To Consume You
Comparison will be all around you, but you have the power to let it in or keep it out.
Something I have to do often is unplug from social media. Social media can be great, but it’s also a pool that comparison loves to swim in.
The thing about social media is that it’s all for showing the highlights life. Another thing I had to come to terms with is that I’m right on time with God’s plan for me.
“Here is holy” because God is with me here. I don’t have to rush to get “there”.
You are not behind Bestie. You are growing and establishing your roots, right where you are.
Don’t get caught up in comparing your seed to their tree.
3. Understand That God Is With You And Has Equipped You For Your Calling
I think we forget that God knew what he was doing when he chose us. God was well aware of who you were and that you couldn’t walk in your calling without him.
He’s not expecting you to do anything alone. He is also not expecting you to do everything right.
The amazing thing about you and I is that we are similar to a seed. Everything we need is inside of us. There will be people, situations, and circumstances that water us. But God is the one who will make us grow.
4. Take Things One Step At A Time
I’ll be honest with you Bestie, you may be trying to juggle too much at one time. I notice when I have a lot on my plate, overwhelm and anxiety come in to say hello. Honestly, a calling from God is supposed to be fun.
A reason why I pile my plate high is because I want to arrive. I want to get “there”. When we just want to get to a destination, there is no fulfillment in it because it is rushed. I had to realize that everything I do is going to be a process and there is NO destination.
5. Move With The Shift
Right after I got back to the basics, there was a shift. It was almost as if I was an iPhone on 1%, but then I was fully charged ready to geaux.
It’s just something about giving your calling back to God that makes the difference. When you are able, to be honest with God about how you are feeling and how you are unsure; he honors that.
There will be many reasons to give up, but one thing you can count on is God’s faithfulness to you. Trust him and watch things shift.
6. Remember What God Has Said
I had to start confessing that “I will be everything that God said I could be”. Even when I had no words, these words came to me.
On many days, this was my only prayer. There were also specific things that I remembered that God told me.
I found myself going to find my old journals and reading what God had spoken over me. You will have to remember Bestie because your reality will not match his Word at times; you will have to fight to believe.
Remember that you have to take things one step at a time and not rush the process.
If you are not sure what God has said about your specific calling, you can always stand on one of his promises.
7. Hype Yourself Up In Him
Some people say stir yourself up in him, but I like to think of it as “hyping” myself up.
You will need to remind yourself of who you are in Christ. This is the only thing about you that will NEVER change.
You will always be:
- Created in His image, after His likeness (Genesis 1:26)
- His son (offspring)
- His Masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10)
- Holy and without fault in His eyes (Ephesians 1:4)
- And so much more.
8. Keep Trying
The key to not giving up is to not give up. It doesn’t matter if you take one small step, celebrate that step, because you are trying.
The only way that anyone fails is if they give up. I had to keep trying even when I didn’t feel it. There will be times when everything will tell you to give up, but trying shows your faith.
Keep trying Bestie even when you don’t know what you’re doing. Remember your calling is from God and he wants to help you. Your calling is worth your trying.
9. Realize The Waiting Is For You And Not Against You
I must admit this is a HARD one. I used to get frustrated all the time when I didn’t see the promise like the next. What I learned this week is that gratitude helps you to master the waiting game.
To combat frustration, use the power of gratitude by thanking God for every single thing in your life! Thank him for every little thing and watch how you cultivate the environment for the Kingdom of God.
I can’t speak for you Bestie, but I know if I would’ve gotten the promise as soon as God spoke it, I would’ve perished.
I wasn’t ready and as I write this there are things that I’m still not ready for. God is omniscient; He knows exactly when you and I need everything. He created us. Trust him.
This post was all about what is a calling from God.
Remember you are destined to win because he got up!
