You have the power to rewrite your story.
Whatever you believe about yourself will shape the way you show up in life. If you believe you’re not enough, you may avoid opportunities that pivot you towards your destiny.
For years, I believed that I didn’t matter. This belief caused me to be inconsistent in almost every area of my life. The only way I could change was to rewrite my story starting with the way I saw God and myself.
If you’ve been holding onto any belief that doesn’t align with God’s word, then it’s time to challenge it and replace it with the truth.
This post will be all about steps to rewrite your story.
Are you ready? Let’s geaux!
The First Step To Rewrite Your Story
The very first step to anything is awareness. You can’t change anything that you’re not aware of. Because you recognize that you need to rewrite your story, you have taken the initial first step.
You should be extremely proud of yourself.
Before you go any further ,I want to give you some self reflection questions to help you continue the inner work as you begin to rewriting your story.
Here are 9 self reflection questions that can help you along your journey:
- Why do I need to rewrite my story?
- Am I repeating the same bad habits over and over?
- What is it that I’m looking to gain from rewriting my story?
- Is changing my story for myself, others, or both?
- Do I believe that God led me down this path? Why/why not?
- Am I okay with doing this alone?
- What areas am I experiencing low self esteem?
- How do I think this will boost my confidence?
- What will help me to stay the course when it gets tough?
These self reflection questions will help you to put your plan on paper and keep you grounded throughout your journey.
My suggestion would be to keep a journal handy because you’ll be writing a lot. You can also give try audio journaling. Sometimes speaking your thoughts aloud can be more clear than writing them.
3 Techniques To Rewrite Your Story
There are multiple techniques you can use to rewrite your story, but these three are at the top of my list. Always remember that God comes first and He will lead you on your journey.
Here are the three techniques to rewrite your story:
1. Journaling
One of the most powerful techniques for rewriting your story is journaling. Taking time to write down your thoughts, feelings, and experiences helps you to gain clarity on where you are and where you desire to be.
Keeping a record in your journal can help you realize that you’re living in an answered prayer and remind you of what God has already done.
Journaling can also be a good way to pass down your history to the next generation. Think about the Bible. It’s a written document of human life experiences that was inspired by God himself.

5 Steps To Rewrite Your Story
There’s power in rewriting your story. As I mentioned before, your story starts within your mind so renewing your mind is essential.
Rewriting your story is a soul issue. Your soul is your mind, will, and emotions. Even if your story didn’t start well, you have all the power you need to rewrite it.
Here are the steps to rewriting your story:
1. Identify Your Current Story
Genesis 3:9 NIV-But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you”?
To begin to rewrite your story, you need to identify the one you’re currently telling yourself. This requires getting quiet to reflect on any beliefs, thoughts, or patterns that have been shaping your actions and decisions.
Remember awareness is always the first step. Once you’re aware of your current story, you can start to understand how it may be holding you back from fully stepping into your God-given calling.
One of the biggest patterns you might discover is self-sabotage. Undoing the patterns behind self-sabotaging behaviors will give you your power back so that you can live the life you were destined to live.
Reflection Question: Where are you today?
2. Recognize Your Limiting Beliefs
Colossians 3:3 NIV-For you died and you’re real life is hidden with Christ in God.
Your environment heavily influences the way you think and see the world. As you begin to understand your current narrative, it’s important that you recognize the beliefs that taken root in your mind.
If you’re not careful, these beliefs will cause you to think that you’re less than who you are. Aligning yourself with God’s original narrative for you will combat those limiting beliefs.
It also changes the trajectory of future generations because you get to pass down truths instead of lies.
Reflection Question: What are some of the limiting beliefs that still linger in your mind?
3. Fill Your Mind With Truth And Positivity
Joshua 1:8 NIV-Keep this book of law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
If you want anything to change, you have to create an environment that is conducive for that change to thrive. A simple example of this is taking care of a pet fish.
To keep a fish healthy, you have to maintain an environment where it can thrive. The moment when you forget to change the water in the fish tank is when the fish is put at risk.
Why? Because the environment isn’t supporting its survival. This is also true for you. You were never meant to live in lies and negativity. If you remain in it, you begin to die slowly.
Remember Jesus said through Him you’ll know the truth and the truth will set you free.
Reflection Question: How is God using your environment to shape who you are?
4. Correct Your Habits
Ephesians 4:22-23 NIV-You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Your habits are a direct reflection of what’s going on in your mind. To rewrite your story, focus on correcting your habits more than the change you’re desiring.
Your new habits will be the change. For example, if you’re constantly hitting snooze when its time to wake up; try moving your phone to another room or getting an alarm clock.
Reflection Question: What are your current habits that you need to correct?
5. Rewrite Your Story
Habakkuk 2:2-3 NIV-Then the Lord replied: Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.
Take some time to actually write your dream life on a piece of paper. What are the things that God has shown you?
Putting your vision on paper will help you to see where you’re going. Remember God is always helping you and ordering your steps.
Reflection Question: Where is God leading you? Are you aware of why you’re here?
I am so happy that you chose to rewrite your story. The power is within you. You are more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus. Rewriting your story is your right and it doesn’t matter how old or young you are. You deserve to live the life that Jesus lived and died for.
