Hey Bestie! In the middle of me writing another blog this question popped in my mind “How do I know if I’m enough?”
You may be wondering this right now in the midst of all that you are going through. I know that you feel less than most times and that your feet are not big enough to fill the shoes God is calling you to.
If this is you, I need you to know that you are indeed enough. Our Bestie Forever will help you on your journey to believe that you are enough.
Sit back. Relax. And read this blog for some truths to discover that you are enough.
Are you ready? Let’s geaux!
Why Am I Not Good Enough For Anyone?
I can recall times when I asked this. It was when it looked like everyone had someone except for me. I found myself spending the majority of my time alone watching everyone enjoy the company of another person.
What I felt was loneliness, isolation, and feelings of not being good enough for anyone. I wanted to be the person who was wanted or at least needed.
Have you ever felt this way Bestie? You may have had your fair share of heartbreaks that resulted in you avoiding relationships all together or longing for the perfect one.
It only gets even more painful when you are dealing with rejection from your family. Can I be honest with you? The truth is no matter what you do, you will never be good enough for anyone outside of yourself.
So let’s flip the question. Ask yourself: Am I good enough for me? It’s not about being good enough in their eyes. What is it that your eyes see and what has God already said about you?
How To Be Good Enough For Someone
My heart broke at the number of searches this question gets a month. While it’s true that we all want to be good enough in someone’s eyes; it’s time that we change our mindset about who that someone is.
We never add ourselves to the equation which is a problem. We want so badly to be accepted by “them”.
Bestie, I know that you’ve been fighting for approval your whole life, but you can put your weapons down. I know that fight has been exhausting.
It’s wearing you down in ways that you can’t explain. What you need to know is that you were never supposed to look for approval externally because you’ve been stamped by God before time began.
“Before I formed you in your mother’s womb, I knew you. Before you were born I consecrated you to become a prophet of the nations”(Jeremiah 1:5).
I want us to take a look at the word consecrated. Let’s unpack it together. When something or in this case someone is consecrated, it means that they are set apart to be used in a special way.
It means that the person is purposed for something different that’s out of the norm. It’s just like if you’re planning to go out for your birthday.
You aren’t going to put on any old outfit. You’re going to put together a nice outfit ahead of time so that you can look your best on your special day.
You see, you consecrated your outfit for the purpose of your birthday. God did the same with you even if you don’t know your specific purpose yet.
Your Father made sure to consecrate you for something specific. You have his stamp of approval and you had it before you were in your mother’s womb.
What To Do When I’m Not Feeling Good Enough
When you are not feeling good enough, it’s important to remind yourself that your feelings are indicators, not dictators.
This means that your feelings should pivot you forward into discovery not point you backwards into destruction.
There are times where your feelings can lie to you like when they tell you that you are not good enough. When this happens you have to speak back to your feelings and say “No I have always been enough”!
While everyone has these feelings there are important questions to ask yourself to make sure that your feelings aren’t leading you.
1. What triggered these feelings?
This should always be the first question you ask yourself. You don’t just randomly feel not enough without there being a reason behind it. It could be old, unresolved feelings arising.
If this is the case, you have to sit with yourself long enough to figure out what happened. Then you must take your feelings to God in prayer.
Even if you can’t figure out what triggered the feelings, still pray to God so that he can show you.
2. Do I believe what God spoke about me in His word?
Bestie, do you know what God has said about you? Do you understand that your identity is solidified in Christ?
A huge reason why you may feel that you’re not enough is because you don’t believe what God has said.
3. Am I comparing myself to what and who I see?
If you’re letting comparison be your tour guide of life, then you’ll never feel enough. Comparison says live up to these unrealistic standards while God says be still.
Bestie, you will never be anyone else. The people that you see are no better than you.
Every human being is on the same playing field. To find peace, you need to stop comparing yourself to others. Run your own race.
4. Why am I searching for a feeling?
What if you never “feel” enough? Being enough is not a feeling. It’s something you are supposed to know.
Kind of like operating in your gifts. You don’t feel that you can act or speak. You know you can.
Bestie, you are enough. You have to know that.
5. Have I let go of my old self?
The old you may have let others define you, but the new you won’t! The old mindset that you used to have cannot come with you in this upcoming season.
You have to let go of your old self and embrace your new. You’re worth it!
How Do I Know If I’m Enough
Let’s say you created something you are extremely proud of. You love the product, you know all about it, and you are super eager to share your gift with the world.
What if someone that knew nothing about your product tried to define it? And what if everything they said about it was a lie? How would that make you feel? Pretty upset right?
Imagine how God feels when it comes to you! In order to know that you are enough, you have to feed yourself the truth about who you are in Christ little by little.
Then you have to let the Holy Spirit do the rest.
Even when you don’t feel enough, your belief about who you are will begin to overpower those feelings.
