Embracing Imperfections: How To Let Your Imperfections And Mistakes Work For You

Let’s talk about embracing imperfections.

It’s so easy to fall into the trap of thinking that we’ve got life figured out. We set high standards for ourselves and others forgetting that perfection is a mere illusion.

The truth is we are all a work in progress and our imperfections and mistakes display our need for Christ.

Instead of seeing our imperfections and mistakes as reasons to shy back how about we allow them to be motivation to fall forward.

Embracing imperfections is a way to appreciate the One who is perfect while learning to live like Him. One way we can do this is by accepting the unique expression that He has given us.

Today we will learn how we can let our imperfections and mistakes work for us.

This post will be all about embracing imperfections and mistakes.

Are you ready?  Let’s Geaux!

10 Ways To Embrace Imperfections And Mistakes

1. Give Them Over To God

Hebrews 4:15 16  NIV- For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses but we have one who has been tempted in every way just as we are yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence so that we may receive mercy and find Grace to help us in our time of need.

All of your imperfections and mistakes can be conversation starters with God. He says that we can come boldly to the throne of grace because He has been where we are before, yet He did not sin.

Jesus was faced with the same imperfections and mistakes but He didn’t fall victim to them.

This makes Him the perfect person to go to to vent, find solutions, receive encouragement from, and much more.

Remember nothing you face is too big (or too small) for God to handle and help you through.

2. Know That You’re Not Your Imperfections Or Mistakes

2 Corinthians 5:15-17 NIV-And he died for all those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again so from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view though we regarded Christ in this way we no longer do so. Therefore if anyone is in Christ the new creation has come: the old is gone and the new is here.

You have a new identity in Christ. Rather than viewing yourself through the lens of your flaws, it’s time to see yourself as God sees you.

Whenever you notice one of your imperfections, start to ask yourself: What does God think of this?

Next time you make a mistake, take it to Him and ask Him to help you see it from His point of view.

Remember everything you go through on Earth can be looked at as a teaching moment. We are on a planet in the universe.

Try to look at this this realm as if it’s your University.  There will be much progress when you start to see your life in this way.

It’s okay to acknowledge your imperfections and mistakes because your identity is in Christ.

3. See Yourself As God Sees You

Colossians 3:3 NIV-For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

Who does God say that you are? What words does He use to describe your identity?

God’s words are the truth about who you are. It’s the only thing that will not change.

If your identity isn’t in Christ, then it’s in something else.  Whatever that something is doesn’t have enough strength to hold you up through every phase of life.

The Bible says in Colossians 3:3 that your real life is hidden with Christ in God. This means that your identity has an origin because God is your source.

I challenge you to detach from every other idol and reattach to the One who is everything you need.

4. Practice Being Vulnerable And Honest With God And Yourself

1 John 1:9 NIV-If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

You are safe with God.  When you are open and honest about your weaknesses, that’s an opportunity for God to show you Hs strength.

As God’s child you have full right to be dependent on Him, in fact, that’s the only way you’ll really be able to experience Him.

He says in Matthew 18:3 that “Unless you change and become like little children you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven”.

In other words, He’s saying “I AM your Father who created you to be innocent, curious, dependent, easily moldable, teachable, reverent, joyous, trusting, and much more.  I want you to be exactly who I created you to be.”

5. As God Leads Practice Vulnerability With Others

James 5:16 NIV-Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

God is your Source and He allows people to be your mirrors. When you are able to practice vulnerability with God and yourself, it will become a little easier to share with others.

The thing is none of us are alone in our imperfections and mistakes. Because we all fell at the same time, we are all subject to the same types of temptation.

One of the enemy’s goals is to make us think that we are alone in how we feel but that’s not true.

Practicing vulnerability with others is actually a gift. You get to break the illusion of perfection and foster connections that are deep and healthy.

You also allow others to see the real you and where God has taken you from or what He is carrying you through.

6. Let Go Of Your Perspective Of Yourself

Galatians 2:20 NIV-For through the law, I died to the law so that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me.

Self-perception is important in the proper context.  You and I no longer live according to the ways of this world.

Since we’ve given our life to Christ, we can no longer define ourselves by who we used to be.

Our perception of our self is now defined by the One who died for us.

It is no longer you and I that live, but Christ who lives through us by faith.

7. Extract The Lessons That God Is Teaching You

Your imperfections and mistakes are a direct reflection of how God is perfect and how He’s always teaching us.

Remember that the universe is like a university.  You are a student in this universe and God teaches you through every single moment.

Your imperfections and mistakes are the perfect syllabus for growth.  What are some things that God can be teaching you through your imperfections and mistakes?

Again you are not your mistakes and if you are finding yourself in guilt in any way it’s time for you to work on forgiving yourself.

8. Rise Above Your Insecurities Based On Whose You Are And Who You Are

Romans 8:37-39  NIV- No in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, nor angels nor demons, neither the present nor future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our lord.

Everyday will be a opportunity for you to live in this present day or live through the past.

Although you’ll remember your insecurities and mistakes, you can choose to live based on whose you are and who you are.

There is nothing that can separate you from the love of God. His love is big enough to wash you so clean that you won’t even want to define yourself by your flaws.

You may find yourself not being aware of the little imperfections anymore because you’re so enamored by His love.

Love truly is powerful and it covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8 NIV).

BTW, the only reason why you notice your imperfections and mistakes is because of sin.

9. Remind Yourself That This Is Why You Need God

Acts 17:27-28 NIV- God did this so that they will seek Him and perhaps reach out for him and find him though he is not far from any one of us. For in him, we live and move and have our being. As some of your own poets have said, we are his offspring.

An offspring is a product or result of something.  It’s a child.  We need God.

No matter how you may look at life, apart from God we have nothing.

Again you’re imperfections and your mistakes are reasons that you need God.

Don’t allow them to be the thing that pulls you away from God or tries to make you think that you have to fix yourself.

What if these things that you deem as failures are the things that God uses to display His glory in your life and in the lives of others?

10. Remember You’re Not Alone In This

Matthew 18:19-20 NIV- Again truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they asked for it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there I am with them.

It’s very easy to believe that you are alone in what you go through, but I want you to remember that you’re never alone in anything.

Even if no one admits to it, they face the same struggles that you do in some way.

No matter where you are in life God is with you.  He made a promise to never leave or forsake you and that He will be with you until the end of age (Deuteronomy 31:8, Matthew 28:20 NIV).

Even when you’re with others, it’s an opportunity for you to be with God and bring every imperfection and mistake to Him.

This is not to say that you will be leaning on others but you’ll be leaning fully on God with others.

Embracing imperfections is all about understanding that this life is centered around Christ.

All of your imperfections and mistakes are opportunities for you to grow closer to Him and understand yourself more.

Remember His strength is made perfect in your weakness and that He loves you so much.

This post was all about embracing imperfections and mistakes.
