How To Practice Patience Everyday

Life will always present you with chances to practice patience.

practice patience

As humans, we often categorize challenging things as hard, not realizing that what we speak is usually what we get.

We must learn to choose our words carefully because we can manifest both “good” and “bad” things. The more you tell yourself that something is hard, the less you’ll want to do it.

Patience is not hard because it was planted inside of you. In fact, patience is a part of your original design.

You were made in the image of God after His likeness. His nature is patience and so is yours. You just need to practice in order for the fruit of patience to grow.

This post will be all about how to practice patience everyday.

Are you ready? Let’s geaux!

Why Is Patience Important

Patience is a God-idea. To better understand why patience is important, we must understand the purpose of it.

How should we receive patience? Where did patience start? How does God display patience to us? How should we give patience to ourselves? And finally, how can we give patience to others in a way that they can receive it?

Man didn’t create patience, so as man, we will never be able to define it on our own. So let’s take a look at what God says about patience:

Proverbs 19:11 says “A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense. What does this mean?

As we know, it takes time to do things in this world. It takes time to gain knowledge as well as apply it to the many situations we face.

When knowledge is applied, it’s then called wisdom. The verse says that it is one’s glory to look over an offense. Okay so now we have to check to see what glory means (Don’t worry, I got you!).

The word glory means full expression, beauty, and ornament.

Bestie, patience is important because you are an expression of God and like an ornament, patience compliments your character.

Patience is also a component of love. In 1 Corinthians 13:4, we see that the first thing said is that love is patient. If you express patience, you’re expressing love.

Do you remember when Jesus said to love your enemies? What if being patient with your enemy is a way that you can show them love?

That will be the way that they know you’re a disciple of Christ (John 13:35 NIV).

Is Patience A Skill Or A Quality

Galatians 5:22-23 NLT-But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things.

Patience is a very unique thing. While some may think that patience is a skill, others deem it as a quality.

Well I have good news! Patience is actually both a skill and a quality.

Each and every one of us were created in God’s image after His likeness which means that we all have His nature.

Patience is inside of us because it’s God’s nature to exhibit patience. It’s much like a seed before it’s planted into the ground. Take an apple seed for example.

An apple seed has the potential to be an apple tree when it’s planted in the right environment. You also have the potential to grow in patience.

When it comes to patience being a skill, you have to relearn how to be patient. Bestie, there was a time when everything was perfect.

Man was in the presence of God aka the garden of Eden and man had everything and then some. God gave one command.

He said “Do not touch the tree that’s in the middle of the garden”. Man disobeyed and decided to eat the fruit and sin entered the world.

Sin is simply rebellion. Rebellion gives birth to confusion which is how we lost the quality and the skill of patience.

Patience was and still is inside of us, but because of what happened in the fall of man, we have to relearn how to walk in the nature of who we are.

It’s our nature to receive patience from God, grow in it with ourselves and others, and continuously practice it.

Reflection Question: When was the last time you had a chance to practice patience?

3 Qualities Of A Patient Person

Unfortunately, patience doesn’t come naturally to us. It’s inside of us, but we have to allow God to water the seed through the things we face in life.

It’s important that we receive patience from God, grow in it with ourselves and others, and continuously practice it.

Remember, patience is a part of love so it’s extremely important to allow patience to grow.

1. They Are In Tune With Their Innate Ability

1 John 4:7 NIV-Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

This has been repeated many times throughout this post. You already have patience inside of you. Why?

Because God is patience and you came out of Him.

An innate ability is something you’re born with and because you’ve accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior; your spirit was reborn into a life of patience.

2. They Are Quick To Listen, Slow To Speak, And Slow To Get Angry

James 1:19 NLT-Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.

Have you ever been in a heated discussion and all you wanted was to get your point across? We’ve all been there!

But have you ever listened to the other person’s point of view and tried to see their perspective?

Sometimes putting your feelings aside to listen can make patience arise.

Try it out! Practice being quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.

This is a way patience will develop.

3. They Understand God More

2 Peter 3:9 NIV-The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:9 is my favorite scripture because it expresses the love of our Heavenly Father. Bestie, we will always want things and it’s so like us to want things in an instant.

This scripture describes God’s patient nature. It says that “He isn’t being slow to his promise as some understand slowness, but He is being patient because He doesn’t want any of us to perish”.

In this scripture, He isn’t just referring to eternal life. He is referring to all of the things He has promised and the desires that haven’t come to pass yet.

Maybe God is waiting for you to obey Him in an area or understand that your inner being is more important than your outward circumstances.

More than anything God desires for you to know Him. This life isn’t about the accumulation of things; it’s about connection and relationship with your Father, Friend, and King.

He is a good Father who will not give you anything before you’re ready. Allow this fact to be a reminder that you’re at the center of His love always!

Is Practicing Patience Important For Success

Numbers 23:19 NIV-God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?

Everyone wants to be successful, but what is success? What does God say success is for the life that He’s given you?

Whatever it is you have to put in the work and sacrifice often. Many times, you won’t be able to do the things you want to do when you want to do them.

There may even be times that you have to go without because God will be changing your heart to match His. Patience is necessary because, even with God, things won’t unfold for us in a moment.

When God gave me the idea for Blissful-Faith and re-presented it to me with more the following year, I thought it would take off after a certain amount of time.

What I’m learning now is that God is showing me the beauty of growth and connection with Him as I work on the vision He gave me.

Patience is optimal for success because maybe you need to refocus on what success truly is. In every moment, there’s pockets of success, but you just have to be willing to look for it.

Success will look different for you, but patience is definitely necessary. What if true success is connection with God and development of self?

What if this is the reason why He gave you the vision in the first place?

Reflection Question: Would you be satisfied if God’s words didn’t come to pass in your lifetime?

How To Practice Patience Everyday

It’s super easy to allow our experiences to determine how we will respond to life. Remember that because you were created in God’s image, patience is already inside of you.

Allow God to water the seed by choosing one thing from this list to do daily.

Here are eight ways to practice patience everyday:

1. Remind Yourself Of Where Patience Starts

Patience starts and ends in God. The Bible says that God is love.

It also describes love as patient in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.

Rely on God to teach, develop, and help you practice patience.

He wants you to grow this fruit.

2. Pull Out The Good In Each Situation You Face

Every situation you face has some good in it. A great way to pull out the good is to practice gratitude.

I like to think of gratitude as a way to “grab that attitude” and command it to focus on the good.

And we know that the good is all God’s doing.

Learning to be content is a great way to “grab that attitude”. Contentment isn’t settling, but it’s embracing everything you do have. I know I needed to work on being content and if you’re in the same boat, then click the image down below and get your FREE Practicing Contentment Mini Bundle.

3. Learn To Walk Away

As I write this, God is reminding me of a situation that I should have just walked away from. Every situation doesn’t need a response even if you’re responding with the best intentions.

Sometimes, it’s just best to walk away. You’ll find yourself in a better head space and less distracted when you do this.

4. Release The Past And Work Through Those Issues

Giving your past to God and allowing Him to lead you through those issues is a true test of patience.

It’s easy to run from your past, but eventually you’ll have to face it.

So why not allow God to work patience out of you while He heals you from your past wounds?

5. Center Yourself

Centering yourself can look different for everyone, but one way to do it is with breathwork. Notice how when you become frustrated, you take a deep breath in and release.

When you do this, it’s almost as if you’re recalibrating your system and you’re able to focus more on what you’re doing.

Here is a breathwork practice that you can try. It helped me so maybe it’ll help you! Check it out here.

6. Take Things One Step At A Time

There is no need to rush. I mean who even made it cool to rush?

God designed us to where we have to literally put one foot in front of the other.

7. Learn About Mindfulness

Mindfulness is when you focus on what you’re doing in a moment. For example, if you were washing the dishes, you would focus on how the soap feels on your hands.

You would also focus in on how you feel washing the dishes.

It’s kind of like taking inventory and using all of your senses to check in with yourself while doing an activity.

8. Check In With God Throughout The Day

How many times a day do you actually check in with God? Not really to ask Him for anything, but just for connection. I don’t know about you, but I sometimes long for someone to just ask me how I’m doing and really mean it.

I think about how I spend time with God in the morning for a little while, but I sleep for about eight hours.

Why do I not check in with the person who loves me the most?

Through the connection with God, He has already promised that He’ll give us what we need.

The best thing we can do to practice patience is check in with Him just because we’re meant to be with Him.

Life will always present you with chances to practice patience. Throughout everything, it’s all for you to connect with God and remember who you are.
