Hey Bestie! Let’s talk about the benefits of patience.
Do you ever pray to grow in patience? Honestly, you might be shocked to find out that God doesn’t just give you patience whenever you ask.
Everything you do takes some level of work. If you find yourself asking for patience, get ready to face some level of difficulty so that patience can be worked out of you.
You see, we usually pray for things that’s already inside of us. God just does his thing to work it out. It’s like you are a seed and God is the farmer who sets up the perfect environment for you to grow, be fulfilled, and feed others.
It’s a really beautiful cycle.
This post will be all about the benefits of patience.
Are you ready? Let’s geaux!
Why Do We Need Patience
Patience is an idea from God to us. In fact, patience is God’s nature. You were created in God’s image after his likeness so your nature is patience as well.
The word image has nothing to do with what you look like. It has everything to do with your nature and/or your character.
You are a mini version of God. Everything he is; you are.
- He is Love so you are loved (1 John 4:16).
- God is Light so you are the light of the world (1 John 1:5).
- He is God so you are a god (Deuteronomy 10:17).
God is patience so therefore you have patience inside of your genetic makeup. You need patience Bestie because patience is a part of who you are.
The real you isn’t what you see when you look in the mirror. You’re a spirit with a soul inside a body. Your body is the least form of yourself and it’s only your vehicle to navigate this earthly realm.
You know how you were taught the saying “its the inside that counts?” They weren’t lying. Everything you go through and are starts on the inside.
Patience is also important because its a part of your culture. You came from Heaven.
Heaven is the home country while Earth is the colony that you were sent here to impact. The purpose of humanity is to experience heavenly culture here on Earth.
This is why “the Lord’s prayer” says “Let thy Kingdom come and thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven”.
P.S~ The Lord’s Prayer isn’t actually a prayer. (Don’t worry, we’ll talk about that later!)
3 Biblical Examples Of Patience
Every responsible manufacturer sends a manual along with his/her product to ensure that the user is using product for its intended purpose.
You have a manual for your cell phone, your car, and even for your life! A huge problem we have as humans is that we can be prideful when we know nothing.
Want proof? When is the last time you read a manual?
Do you understand that not reading robs you Bestie? There’s so much that you’re missing out on (and losing) because you don’t want to read.
For example, when I got my car in 2021, I was told to get my oil changed every 3,000 miles. I was spending unnecessary amounts of money until I looked inside of the car’s manual.
Bestie, tell me why it said that my car can last 10,000 miles before needing an oil change?!!
It wasn’t until I opened the manual for myself that I discovered this. Besties, we perish for a lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6). Things don’t kill us; ignorance does (and of course this is not speaking of a physical death only).
Now let’s get into the biblical examples of patience. I’m gonna pull them from Elijah’s life and I could bet my bottom dollar that most of you have not seen these before.
Let’s geaux!
Elijah Experiences Jehovah Jireh (1 Kings 17:4-6)
If you say Jesus is your Lord; you are saying that he is your owner. A lord is one who owns.
For example, we’ve all heard of a “landlord” who owns the land and the house one is renting.
When you actually mean that Jesus is Lord, he begins to take care of you in ways that you probably would deem as fictional.
There’s a lot going on in the world and honestly there’s so much more to come.
As you connect with God and obey him, he will sustain you through all the craziness that’s happening, but you also have to prepare.
In 1 Kings 17:4-6, God commanded Elijah to depart from Gilead and hide himself by the brook Cherith. He told him that he will drink from the brook and that ravens will feed him there.
Elijah had to be patient enough to listen to God’s instruction, to travel from Gilead to the brook, and for the ravens to bring him food every break of day and night.
What if God told you not to eat or drink anything so that he can provide for you?
Do you think its possible for God to use the birds to provide your sustenance or will you continue to allow the powers that be control your vagus nerve?
Elijah Experiences Jehovah Rapha (1 Kings 17:17-24)
After the Brook dried up, God commanded Elijah to Zarephath and dwell there. He told him that he commanded a widow there to feed him (1 Kings 17:8-9).
After being at the widow’s house for some time, her son dies. So Elijah ends up taking him to the upper chamber of the home and he cried out to the Lord.
The Lord listened to the voice of Elijah and the child was revived.
Elijah had to be patient in the unknown as he prayed for the child’s life to be returned to him. (Side note: Please go read these scriptures for yourself…I left out many details on purpose so that you can see what God says to you).
Elijah Experiences El Elyon (1 Kings 18)
This one is my personal favorite out of the 3 because God will always show up and show out. He is the One true God and there’s no other (Isaiah 45:5).
In the 38th year of Asa King of Judah, Ahab their son of Omri reigned over Israel. Ahab wasn’t for the Lord at all because he did evil in the sight of the Lord more than all who were before him (1 Kings 16:30).
He took the king of the Sidonians daughter Jezebel for a wife and even started to serve and worship a god called Baal. Ahab even erected an altar for Baal and a house for Baal aka a church.
So Elijah was sent to confront Ahab and defeat the prophets of Baal. Long story short, God showed himself mighty on that day!
All in all, Elijah had to be obedient and patient as he watched the prophets of Baal make a complete fool of themselves and to set up the environment for the Lord to show himself as El Elyon!
There are many more biblical examples of patience in the Bible. All you have to do is read the manual. You won’t be disappointed.
12 Extraordinary Benefits Of Patience
Very recently, I learned that the word fruit in Galatians 5:23 means benefit.
So we can read Galatians 5:23-25 as “The “benefits” of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Against these things there is no law”.
Patience is a benefit of the Spirit.
Those who work in the corporate world or a traditional 9-5 understand benefits. Pretty much, when you commit to something you get to experience the benefits of it.
With That Being Said, Let’s Get Into The Benefits Of Patience:
1. Patience Brings Peace
Proverbs 15:18 says “A hot temper causes arguments, but patience brings peace.
If you’re easily angered, you’re not peaceful. Your anger will cause arguments and most times you know it.
I used to be a person who was angry and I wanted to take my anger out on others closest to me especially if they hurt me.
I used to enjoy getting others upset and most of the relationships in my life consisted of angry people down to my friend group. If you’re here there no condemnation, but this isn’t the way.
Don’t allow the anger to control you. Figure out the root cause of the anger and get to the bottom of it so that you may grow in the patience and peace that’s rightfully yours.
2. Patience Is A Component Of Love
1 Corinthians 13:4 says “Love is patient”. So this means when you’re patient, you’re expressing love.
All of us need to take a look in the mirror and really think to ourselves about this one. The person that you really need to be patient with is yourself.
You can’t say that you love anyone if you’re not patient with them. Loving yourself and others requires patience because love is patient.
The first part of the definition of love says that it is patient. Our concept of love needs to change Besties, but let’s stay on track with talking about patience.
3. Patience Allows You To See From A Different Perspective
Romans 12:12 says to “rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, and be constant in prayer”.
The Greek word for tribulation is thilipsis. Thilipsis means pressure (literally or figuratively).
In life, there will be moments of pressure and there is no getting away from them.
Pressure isn’t necessarily a “bad” thing. Take a woman giving birth. It’s not the most comfortable experience for her and the baby, but the pressure experienced brings forth life.
The reason the scripture says to be patient in tribulation is because your perspective of tribulation will determine your outcome.
Mindset is everything Besties! How many things can you look back on that you thought was “bad” and now see that God worked them in your favor?
If you’re in a challenging situation right now, try to pull out the good and keep record of the situation so that in future you can see how everything worked out for you.
4. Patience Helps You To Get In Your Position
In a kingdom, the king and his army fights for the citizens. Exodus 14:14 says “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still”.
The church has confused many by preaching that God’s people are his army. This is false. You are a citizen of Heaven (Philippians 3:20).
The Lord’s army is the angels who do his bidding (Psalm 103:20). They are designed to serve God and his images (Hebrews 1:14).
Every form of government has an army of some type and if you’ve ever been around someone in the military then you know they call everyday people “civilians”.
It’s no different in the Kingdom of Heaven. You are NOT in the army. You ARE a citizen.
Even after he tells you to put on the full armor of God in Ephesians, he doesn’t tell you to fight. He instructs you to PRAY.
5. Patience Helps Us To Be Consistent
Galatians 6:9 says “Let us not become weary in well doing for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up”.
When a seed is planted in the ground, you must remain patient until harvest.
Between seed time and harvest, there is multiple things to do. A gardener knows that she has to actually care for and nurture the seed so that it can produce abundantly for her family.
You are a seed in God’s garden and you shouldn’t stop getting watered (by doing good) because you don’t see any growth yet.
Remember all seeds grow under the soil before they are seen above it.
Once the seed is broken, it constantly reaches towards the light until it brings forth what it was created to produce.
Bestie, you have to keep going because there is so much beauty in your creation. You have so much to produce.
6. Patience Is A Tool Used To Prepare You
A “waiting season” is really a time of preparation. It is used to work patience out of you.
My favorite scripture is 2 Peter 3:9 and it says “The Lord isn’t slow to his promise as some thinks, but he is patient for your sake because he doesn’t want you to perish.”
You can still want what God has put on your heart while you’re preparing for it.
It’s kind of like preparing a good meal. You gather all of the ingredients and then you prepare it so that you can eat it.
What if God is waiting on you while you’re thinking you’re waiting on him? He could be waiting for you to finally see yourself the way he sees you.
7. Patience Gives Birth To Perseverance
You need perseverance so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised (Hebrews 10:36).
Stop thinking that you’ll only get what’s promised in Heaven. You are of Heaven while you’re on Earth.
Think about it this way: My Jamaican Besties…if you come to America…does that make you American? No..so that means that you would be in America, not of it.
The longer you delay your reward, the longer it’ll be until you receive it. Stop thinking of dying and going to Heaven.
Persevere so that you can have Heaven on Earth because it’s possible.
8. Patience Leads You To Understanding
Jesus spent 3 years with the disciples and he told them many things that they didn’t understand until later.
He even said “You don’t realize now what I’m doing, but later you will understand” (John 13:7).
How many times did your mom or dad tell you something when you were little and you now understand what they were saying?
You didn’t know it when you were little, but patience was setting in so that you could grow in understanding.
Now you can look back and thank mama and daddy for their wise words that you now understand.
9. Patience Is Better Than Pride
Ecclesiastes 7:8 says “Better is the end of a thing than it’s beginning; and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit”.
Do you know why the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit? It’s because when you’re patient in spirit you are being a direct reflection of God.
You were created in his image after his likeness (Genesis 1:26). So when you’re being patient in spirit, you’re being like your Father.
10. Patience Helps You To Be Persuasive
How many times have you found yourself in an argument with someone only to get no where?
Proverbs 25:15 says “By patience and a calm spirit a ruler may be persuaded, and a soft tongue breaks a bone (of resistance)”.
You never know what can happen with a little bit of patience so try to talk to that person again. Try to go apply for that job again or even ask that girl out on a date again.
Patience persuades.
11. Patience Can Help You Calm A Quarrel
A hot tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel (Proverbs 15:18).
With patience, you can settle a quarrel. Maybe we should really relearn how to be patient!
12. Patience is YOU
Again Bestie, you have patience inside of your genetic makeup.
You are a mini version of God. Everything he is; you are.
- He is Love so you are loved (1 John 4:16).
- God is Light so you are the light of the world (1 John 1:5).
- He is God so you are a god (Deuteronomy 10:17).
This post was all about the benefits of patience.
Remember you’re destined to win because He got up!
