Hey Bestie! Learning to trust God is the ultimate goal of life.
God is your Abba which means that he is your Father, Source, and Sustainer.
You came from God and you are created in his image after his likeness (Genesis 1:26 NLT). You were even in him before the foundation of the world, and he chose you to be holy and without fault in his eyes (Ephesians 1:4 NLT).
Bestie, you are loved by God because you are his kid. Have you ever witnessed how a child has immediate love and trust toward the one who takes care of them?
God wants you to be just like that towards him because cares for you.
This post will be all about learning to trust God.
Are you ready? Let’s geaux!
It takes a mindset shift to trust God. Many of you come from environments with people who have shown themselves as untrustworthy.
You may find it hard to trust yourself as well because you haven’t yet faced yourself. But all of this is okay.
Trusting God is not a speedily process, but it happens over time as you walk with him. I know it can be hard to think of God as someone who is trustworthy with everything happening in the world but think about it; you are in the world.
Do you really think that God who is a loving father would allow his child to live in constant pain and agony? God created this world to be inhabited not for chaos (Isaiah 45:18 NIV).
It may be hard to believe, but you have the power to change the world for the better with God’s help. This is one reason why it’s so important to learn to trust him.
Bestie, you were created to bring Heaven to Earth. Heaven is where you’re originally from, and God‘s plan is to have you govern the Earth with Heaven’s influence.
Power Of Attorney Rights And Limitations
A power of attorney is a legal binding term, describing a document that allows you to appoint someone to manage your property, business, as well as medical and financial affairs.
This is what God intended for you to act as while on Earth. The Earth is the Lord’s and the fullness of thereof (Psalm 24:1-2 KJV) and you are here to manage it all!
You are his power of attorney!
Who Is God To You
This is one of the most important questions when it comes to trusting God. When answering this question, you have to think about how you see God.
Do you see God as someone who just wants to punish you? Is God a reminder of your earthly dad, who neglected you?
Do you think God wants to ruin your life and make you suffer? Is he just the being in the sky who sends some to Heaven and others to Hell? Who is God to you?
Whenever you get in a new relationship, you subconsciously hold onto your previous experiences. For example, if you’ve been cheating on, then, naturally, you begin to watch for red flags that you may have missed in your previous relationship.
It’s natural to do this, even if you’re not charging the new person with the previous person’s faults. When you are learning to trust God, it’s important to study his character and watch for red flags in a sense.
How do you do this? By studying his word. The Bible is full of truths about who God is and once you begin to study God’s character, you will begin to see his faithfulness.
Being Honest With God
Before you start to study, you have to be honest about how you see God.
Find a sheet of paper and begin to write out who God is to you. How do you see God? You don’t have to write out that he is good if you don’t believe it.
Many times we can say we believe something, but our actions show otherwise. Be completely honest about how you see him.
I had to be honest with God about not trusting him. At one point, I told him all about how I thought he would send me to hell for making mistakes.
When I began to trust him a little more, I told him how I felt that he would leave me just like everyone else.
The only way light can penetrate darkness is if you make the move to flick the switch. Flick the switch by being honest with him.
God will not be offended by your honesty. He wants to help you to have the proper view of him so that you can begin to trust him as your Abba.
Psalms About Trusting God
Throughout the Bible, there are many truths about God’s character. The book of psalms is actually a book of songs that express who God is and how we should function in our relationship with him.
We’re going to take a look at Psalm 103 and break it down because it speaks truth to who God is.
Let all that I am praise the LORD ; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. Let all that I am praise the LORD ; may I never forget the good things he does for me.
Psalm 103:1-2 NLT
Trusting God requires you to get the proper view of him. After you write down how you view him, remind yourself of what he’s already done for you.
If you need help, the next couple of verses will give you some guidance. My prayer is that you and I never forget what he’s done for us.
He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s! The LORD gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly. He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel. The LORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever. He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.
Psalm 103:3-12 NLT
All of these scriptures, tell you what God has done for you. These are things you can add to your list. You have to find it in yourself to believe him at his word. He won’t let you down.
The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust. Our days on earth are like grass; like wildflowers, we bloom and die. The wind blows, and we are gone— as though we had never been here. But the love of the LORD remains forever with those who fear him. His salvation extends to the children’s children of those who are faithful to his covenant, of those who obey his commandments! The LORD has made the heavens his throne; from there he rules over everything.
Psalm 103:13-19 NLT
These are the verses that speak of God’s character. He is a Father who is tender and compassionate.
The word fear in this scripture doesn’t mean to be afraid of God, but to be afraid to disappoint him. This scripture also speaks of reasons why we should obey God.
Praise the LORD, you angels, you mighty ones who carry out his plans, listening for each of his commands. Yes, praise the LORD, you armies of angels who serve him and do his will! Praise the LORD, everything he has created, everything in all his kingdom. Let all that I am praise the LORD.
Psalm 103:20-22 NLT
Praise the Lord! Even in all your humanity, God still chooses to trust you by giving you power of attorney. If he, being the One that is faithful, can trust us, then why shouldn’t we try to trust him.
Learning to trust God is to study his character and watch for the red flags. Soon you will realize that he has none because he is fully trustworthy.
