2 Peter 1:5-7- In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.
Are You Aware That The Promises Are For You
I know it can be easy to read God’s promises and think “those aren’t for me”. What you must know is that every promise in the Word of God was designed for you.
When God wrote out his promises, he had you in mind. The promises are not for those who you think are “good” or those who attend every church service.
These promises are for every person who was created in the image of God and that includes you!
Just because you have baggage does not mean that you are excluded from the promises.
His promises don’t discriminate by who you are or what you may have done. They are yours!
What Are Some Of God’s Promises
There are many promises in the Word of God. All of God’s promises are fulfilled 100% of the time.
He is the Promise Keeper. Let’s be clear: None of God’s promises are based on merit.
There is NOTHING you can do to “earn” a fulfilled promise. God’s promises are not based on works, but they are based on his love for you.
The only true requirement is obedience. God is your Father. He says “if you do this, then I will do that”. “When you do this, I will do that”.
It’s much like a parent-child relationship. If your child asks “Can I have some cookies?” and you reply “Yes, but you have to clean your room first”. The child must clean the room in order to get the cookies right?
It’s the same with God. Try not to make it complicated.
ALL of his promises are for you Bestie, but they require you to play your part.

How Do I Know That God’s Promises Will Come True In My Life
Each promise tells of how intimately God wants to be in your life. He has formed you, chosen you, set you apart, made specific plans for your life, and vowed to never leave you or forsake you.
This is because he is the One who started this good work in you and he will be the one to complete it. He’s cared for you since you were born and will be with you throughout your lifetime.
It’s very comfortable to believe in things that you can see rather than believe words in an ancient book. It isn’t until you get to know the One who inspired each word that you can know that the promises have already been fulfilled.
The only way to know that God’s promises will come true in your life is to take the risk of faith. What do you have to lose when you are placing your “bets” on the One who is everything?
It is time get uncomfortable and release control. Trying to be in control and relinquishing control at the same time does not work. These things cannot coexist.
The only way to know for sure that God’s promises will come true in your life is to have faith in him.
How Do I Respond To God’s Promises
To understand how to respond to God’s promises, we have to break down 2 Peter 1:5-7. It says to couple your faith with six things:
- Moral excellence: doing what is right and avoiding what is wrong.
- Knowledge: Your understanding of something.
- Self control: The ability to restrain or control yourself from going over a capacity or level in which you should stop.
- Patient endurance: Staying planted where God has you.
- Godliness: Being like God; developing his character.
- Brotherly affection: Love for your brothers and sisters everywhere.
Each of these are building blocks to responding to God’s promises. The very first thing you must have is faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6).
Every block is a step towards Jesus. As you spend time with him, his ways rub off on you. You will then understand more about him and the life he desires for you to live.
He will then become your Teacher and help you develop the fruit of self control as you patiently wait on him where he planted you.
As you practice saying yes to him, you are becoming more like him. His love then grows in you, for yourself and your brothers and sisters everywhere.
Responding to God’s are not just saying thank you to him. Your response is about walking hand in hand with him and becoming your authentic self.
Remember you are destined to win because He got up!
